In September 2016 I was blessed enough to be asked to attend Harvester Christian Church‘s Daybreak. Daybreak is an event for women of all ages and stages in life. My good friend Heather asked me to join her at this event. I was thrilled and excited to be asked and go. I had no idea what was in store for me and how it would change my life. It was called Joy Wins and boy did it ever!
Little did I know that going to this weekend event would be a life and game changer for me. Featured Speaker was Margaret Feinberg author of Fight Back With Joy and many more Christian books. The musical guest was Jamie Jamgochian. I had never heard of either of these women but instantly connected with both.
As I sat there and listened to Margaret Feinberg she started speaking to my heart. I felt God reaching out to me through her word. I sat there and listened to her Joyful Are We story and something stirred within me. I knew I found a kindred spirit. While I have not battled with cancer and my autoimmune disease was in remission, at the time, I felt that what she was saying was something I needed to hear.
Fight back with Joy
I bought two of her books that weekend, Fight Back with Joy and Organic God. I have read Fight Back with Joy and it changed my life. That is a whole series of future blog posts. But let’s say that Margaret and an author named Kristy Cambron Facebook are the reason this blog exists today.
In April 2017 my autoimmune disease, Ulcerative Colitis, came out of remission and hit full force. After two months of suffering, I ended up in the hospital for 3 days. I was miserable and knew something in my life needed to change. My heart kept telling me to read that book I bought back the previous September.
Finally almost a year after buying the book I read it and it changed my life. I started fighting back with Joy. In fact, Joy is my focus word for this year. I was determined to infuse Joy into my life. I have a unicorn hat and crazy kiddie sunglasses. I got a rocking haircut, then I took a step further. I even got a fun tattoo that has a hard-hitting meaning for me. I was turning my life around and Joy was winning.
I own several of Margaret Feinberg’s books and coloring books, yes she makes wonderful adult coloring books.
When she came out with the 31-day Advent Challenge Activity Calendar, I knew I was going to do it. It is not too late to join in and catch up. You can get the book here and download the 31-day activity calendar.
Will you be joining me? Let me know and post your progress.
