Did you know that sleep is a spiritual activity? It is the one thing we do the most of in our life. 1/3 of our life is spent sleeping. Sleep and rest are one of the essentials to have a healthy body and spirit. We will actually die if we deprive our bodies of sleep and rest for too long.
We all sleep but God does not. Sleep is a daily reminder that we are not God and we can’t be him but we must do as he asks and sleep. we have a tendency to think that we are in control and that what we do is the only thing that matters. We are not and it is not, God is charge and his work is what matters the most.
Sleep is an act of trust, we trust that when we lay down and turn off our mind, that the next day we will awake anew. In many areas of the world and throughout history, to sleep is and was to put oneself at the mercy of the enemies.
Sleep is a spiritual preparation and is one of the most overlooked processes of connecting spiritually. When we don’t get enough sleep we are foggy in the head, we feel out of it and have a hard time connecting with God. We need sleep to form a connection with God and go where he leads.
